Veneto

The Veneto ships more wine than any other Italian region, which has done its reputation no favors. Look past the volume and there is Amarone — grapes dried on racks for months, then fermented dry — and Ripasso, Valpolicella passed back over the Amarone skins for more depth. Soave Classico, from the hills around Soave, has nothing in common with the cheap stuff of the 1980s.
